A little care goes a long way
Cape Tribulation is a special place to explore, where the Daintree Rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef. Whether you’re snorkelling with Ocean Safari, staying at Safari Lodge or stopping at Turtle Rock Café, your everyday choices can help care for this remarkable environment.
Here are a few simple ways to make a difference during your visit.
Explore the reef with care
Enjoy watching marine life in its natural environment and give it plenty of space.
- Look without touching, chasing or feeding wildlife.
- Keep your body, fins and camera clear of coral. Never stand or rest on the reef.
- Ask our crew for help with your equipment or flotation if you need it.
- Leave shells, coral and other natural treasures where you find them.
- Follow crew instructions around the reef and sand cay, especially near resting or nesting birds.
Our crew are always happy to answer questions and help you understand what you’re seeing.
Tread lightly in the rainforest
Stay on marked tracks and boardwalks, leave plants and natural objects undisturbed, and take your rubbish with you.
Drive carefully through the Daintree and watch for wildlife, particularly cassowaries. Observe animals from a respectful distance and never offer them food.
Follow local signs, closures and advice—conditions in this tropical environment can change quickly.
Bring less waste
Pack a reusable water bottle, carry bag and coffee cup where practical. Choose products with less packaging and secure loose items so they don’t blow into the rainforest or ocean.
Use the bins provided and check the signs before recycling. If a bin is full, let our team know or take your rubbish with you.
Save water and energy during your stay
Small habits help reduce demand on resources in our remote location.
Keep showers short, turn off taps when not in use and switch off lights and air conditioning when leaving your cabin. Keep doors and windows closed while the air conditioning is running, and let our team know if you notice a leak.
Support the people who call this place home
Choose local accommodation, cafés, tours and shops, and take the time to get to know the region.
We acknowledge the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people as the Traditional Owners of the Daintree area. Respect cultural places, follow local guidance and choose Indigenous-led experiences to learn about culture directly from the people who share it.
Ask our team for suggestions for your stay.
Make thoughtful travel choices
Plan your route to reduce unnecessary driving, share transport where practical and spend a little longer exploring one destination.
Choose tourism experiences with recognised sustainability certification and read about the actions behind their commitments.
Keep learning
Your visit can be the beginning of a longer connection with the reef and rainforest. Ask questions, share what you learn and take some of these habits home.
